It is surprising how accessible Il Poggio is; being in central Tuscany it is approximately 30 miles (50 Kilometres) from both Florence and Pisa - both cities having International airports (Pisa - Galileo Galilei and for Florence Airport) and International Railway Stations.
At both locations there are a number of local and International car-hire firms. If you are travelling by car you need to head towards Montaione, which is about 4 miles (6 Kilometres) from the village of Sughera in which Il Poggio is situated.
To help you plan your journey - we recommend The RAC's route planner service - which is free easy to use and will show you the best route between any two points in Europe. To begin click here and enter the town or city which you are leaving in box 1 i.e. 'Pisa' then enter 'Montaione' in box 2 as the town at the end of the journey (be sure to scroll down to 'Italy' in the two drop-down country boxes). Finally, press 'Go'. You will be taken to another page where you simply confirm these locations and press 'Go' again. You will then be taken to another page with an interactive map, detailed directions, step by step maps and links to local services. The village of Sughera is very near to Montaione and the roads well signed. If in any doubt ask any of the locals who will be only to happy to direct you.
Alternatively, you may decide to come by train - this is especially easy if you arrived in either Pisa or Florence in this way. You should aim for Castelfiorentino - there are direct trains from Florence and also the option of going via Empoli. From Pisa you must go first to Empoli and change trains there, taking one for Castelfiorentino. Either way the journey time is about an hour. Once there you can take a bus to Montaione although a taxi (directly to Sughera) would probably be more convenient. This link is very useful in finding out times and connections for the trains.
